Taika Waititi to direct ‘Klara and the Sun’ starring Jenna Ortega

Director Taika Waititi is set to release the film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel ‘Klara and the Sun’ in late October 2026. The film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on October 22, 2026, followed by a United States release on October 23, 2026.

Set in a near-future dystopian society, the story follows Klara (played by Jenna Ortega), an ‘Artificial Friend’—a solar-powered robot with high emotional intelligence. Klara is purchased by a mother (Amy Adams) to serve as a companion for her daughter, Josie (Mia Tharia), in a world where children are genetically edited for academic success.

The production features a cast including Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne. The screenplay was written by Dahvi Waller and Taika Waititi, with Sony Pictures Releasing serving as the distributor.
