Taikoo Shing implements new measures to curb parking lot congestion

Management at Taikoo Shing has implemented new measures to address severe traffic congestion at its central parking lot, which previously left drivers trapped for nearly two hours during heavy rain in early August.

To prevent vehicles from backing up into nearby roads, the management company will now implement a “queue-cutting” system on Tai Koo Bay Road when the lot is near capacity. This includes using signage to direct drivers to alternative parking facilities.

The Hong Kong Transport Department noted that because the parking lot exit is on private land, the responsibility for managing the flow of vehicles and pedestrians lies with the property management company. While some experts have suggested installing traffic lights at the exit to regulate flow, the department clarified that such installations are subject to the management company's discretion.

District Councilor Kwok Ho-king, who previously proposed closing certain access points to divert traffic, has been working with the developer and police to refine solutions after facing public criticism that his initial ideas might worsen local congestion.
