Tainan experiences a traffic crash and a large factory fire
A 73‑year‑old driver in Tainan allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, striking a motorcyclist and then colliding with several parked vehicles on North Gate Road. The motorcyclist suffered multiple abrasions but was not in life‑threatening condition and was taken to hospital. Police reported no alcohol or drug involvement and are investigating the cause of the crash.
In a separate incident, two adjoining factories in Tainan’s Guanmiao district – an automotive‑parts plant and a nearby food‑processing company – were engulfed in a fire that burned for six hours, destroying roughly 1,200 pyeong (about 3,000 m²) of floor space. Firefighters deployed dozens of vehicles, robots and drones to extinguish the blaze, and air‑quality monitors were set up as smoke drifted toward neighboring districts. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
