Tainan promotes AI and green energy to build Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) held its 2026 Innovation Day at the Shalun Green Energy Science City in Tainan, focusing on international innovation, circular economy, sustainable energy, smart robotics, and AI unmanned vehicles.

Tainan officials and ITRI leadership emphasized the goal of transforming the Shalun area into a core hub for the ‘Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley’ project. This initiative aims to build an AI application ecosystem that differs from the Hsinchu model by integrating cloud computing power, AI innovation buildings, and smart robotics research centers to provide one-stop services for enterprises.

A key priority is the technical transfer of AI and green energy technologies to local traditional industries. By integrating these advancements into the AI supply chain, authorities aim to prevent economic polarization and ensure that the benefits of AI technology reach a broader industrial base across southern Taiwan.
