Tainan Railway Underground Project Nears Year‑End Completion

Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications reports that the underground railway project in Tainan has entered its final phase. The tunnel structure and track work are finished, and Tainan Station is undergoing interior completion and testing of fire‑safety, power, signaling and other electromechanical systems. The line is slated to open before the end of the year, eliminating 23 level crossings, bridges and underpasses and easing urban traffic.

The plan also includes two new underground commuter stations – Lin‑sen Station, expected to open in 2029, and South Tainan Station, targeted for 2030. A coordination platform between the Rail Bureau and the Tainan municipal government has been set up to prepare surrounding traffic flows, transfer facilities and fire‑safety measures. Transport Minister Chen Shih‑kai inspected the site recently, emphasizing safety and quality before public use.

Separately, the Tainan Tourism Bureau has launched a special railway‑heritage tour titled “Fish‑Head Guide” to let enthusiasts experience the city’s historic rail scenery before the underground works alter the landscape. The itinerary visits former stations, cultural parks and night‑walk routes, promoting local tourism while the infrastructure transition proceeds.
