Tainan railway undergrounding project set to open October 18
The Tainan Railway Underground Project is scheduled to begin operations on the morning of October 18. This 8.23-kilometer infrastructure project aims to eliminate 23 level crossings, pedestrian bridges, and underpasses, facilitating urban integration and the creation of green corridors.
To celebrate this milestone, the Tainan City Government has launched a series of commemorative events. These include musical performances at the historic Tainan Railway Station, heritage walks, temple-related activities, and photo opportunities at railway landmarks. A special series of events will run from the Mid-Autumn Festival through the opening period.
The project faced various challenges during construction, including land acquisition, cultural heritage preservation, and complex geological conditions. Upon completion, the historic Tainan Railway Station will be preserved and will serve as a primary entrance to the new underground station, blending historical architecture with modern transportation infrastructure.
