Taipei and New Taipei City to offer free bus rides on September 22
Taipei City and New Taipei City are collaborating to offer free bus rides on September 22 to mark Car-Free Day. The initiative aims to encourage citizens to reduce reliance on private vehicles and embrace green transportation.
On the event day, 719 bus routes managed by both cities, involving 5,842 vehicles, will be free of charge. Passengers can board without swiping cards or paying cash from the first bus until the final service of the day, including overnight routes. The offer excludes the Red and Blue tourist bus lines.
The program is part of a broader effort to foster a green commuting culture. Accompanying activities include the ‘My Carbon Reduction Account’ promotion and a ‘Bus-Friendly Month’ featuring contests and themed bus displays.
