Taipei and New Taipei offer free bus rides for World Car Free Day
To observe World Car Free Day on September 22, the transportation departments of New Taipei City and Taipei City, in collaboration with bus operators, are offering free rides on all city bus routes. Passengers will not need to swipe cards or pay cash to participate in the initiative aimed at encouraging public transit use and promoting a low-carbon lifestyle.
The event is part of the ‘2026 Dual-North Friendly Bus Month,’ which features several community activities. These include a children’s drawing competition where winning artworks will be displayed on themed buses as a ‘mobile museum,’ and an AI-driven trivia challenge via LINE to win prizes. The initiative seeks to improve the commuting experience and support the region's goals for net-zero carbon emissions.
