Taipei announces new childcare and postpartum support policies

Taipei Mayor Jiang Wan-an has announced the ‘Taipei Supports Your Family’ policy, a comprehensive suite of measures designed to combat low birth rates by supporting families from pregnancy through childcare. Key initiatives include a first-of-its-kind ‘postpartum meal subsidy’ of 30,000 TWD per birth, which will be available to all mothers regardless of income starting in 2027.

Other major Taipei City measures include increasing medical egg freezing subsidies to 72,000 TWD for women aged 25 to 40, expanding the ‘Good Pregnancy 2U’ transport subsidy to 10,000 TWD, and introducing 8-hour free electronic childcare vouchers for families with infants. The city also plans to launch a 60-minute specialized clinic for new families and is working toward property tax exemptions for marriage and child-rearing households.

In New Taipei City, authorities are expanding child safety services through a partnership with four major convenience store chains. Starting in August, over 2,000 stores will serve as ‘emergency refuge stations,’ allowing children who feel unsafe or are being followed to seek immediate help from staff and contact the police.
