Taipei bus and car drivers test positive for drugs after collision

A bus on route 11 and a private car collided on the afternoon of April 4 on Xinglong Road Section 2 in Taipei's Wenshan District. After the crash, the two drivers, a 38‑year‑old bus driver identified as Xu and a 30‑year‑old car driver identified as Jiang, exited their vehicles and engaged in a heated argument.

Police arriving at the scene observed the drivers' agitated behavior and administered saliva drug tests. Both tests returned positive results: the bus driver tested positive for marijuana, while the car driver tested positive for amphetamine. The drivers were detained on suspicion of drug‑driven driving and transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation. The bus driver reported having hypertension and taking prescribed medication, but authorities noted that the positive drug screens must still be confirmed by laboratory analysis.

Police indicated that the incident underscores the danger of drug use while operating vehicles and said they will continue to enforce strict zero‑tolerance policies for drug‑related traffic offenses.
