Taipei City health bureau flags pesticide, heavy‑metal and bacterial violations in online produce and drink items
The Taipei City Health Bureau randomly inspected 15 fresh‑produce items sold through online platforms and found three products that did not meet safety standards: curry leaf and rosemary contained pesticide residues above the legal limits, and an avocado exceeded the permissible cadmium level. The bureau ordered the e‑commerce platforms to remove the items and warned that violations of the Food Safety and Health Act can attract fines ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$2 billion for pesticide breaches and NT$30,000 to NT$3 million for heavy‑metal breaches.
In a separate inspection wave, the bureau tested 131 packaged drink and ice‑product samples, including ice, ice‑cube, beverages and ingredients. Eighteen samples failed, primarily because of excessive preservatives or the presence of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria. The non‑compliant brands included One Bath Day, Seven Lantern Tea, Luisa and others; firms were fined between NT$30,000 and NT$300,000, with repeat offenders receiving higher penalties. One ingredient product was found to contain a prohibited preservative. The health bureau has urged vendors to improve hygiene, maintain proper storage temperatures, keep equipment clean, and enforce staff health checks.
