Taipei construction site fire leads to fines and work stoppage
A major fire broke out at a construction site in the Da'an District of Taipei on the evening of September 26. The site is part of an urban renewal project involving the National Housing and Urban Development Center and Chuan Kun Construction.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an confirmed that no personnel were trapped inside the site. However, the fire originated on the third basement level, making rescue efforts difficult. Emergency responders deployed 102 personnel, including 30 fire engines and 7 command vehicles, to manage the incident.
The Taipei City Building Management Office determined that the site had failed to implement adequate fire prevention measures. Consequently, authorities have issued a maximum fine of 90,000 TWD and ordered an immediate work stoppage at the site.
Due to smoke from the fire, the Environmental Protection Bureau activated air quality monitoring across seven districts in Taipei and New Taipei, including Wenshan, Zhongzheng, Xinyi, Da'an, and Songshan in Taipei, as well as Yonghe and Zhonghe in New Taipei. Residents in these areas were advised to close windows, minimize outdoor activities, and wear masks if they must go outside.
