Taipei junior high school reports suspected food poisoning
A suspected food poisoning incident has occurred at a municipal junior high school in the Datong District of Taipei. According to the Taipei City Education Bureau, 87 ninth-grade students reported experiencing diarrhea on the evening of February 7. As of February 8, one student required leave for recovery, while others have returned to school.
Parents reported that the meat served during the nutritional lunch program had a distinct sour and foul odor. The school has taken several emergency measures, including halting food services from the current vendor until the end of the week and conducting a deep cleaning and disinfection of the hot food department kitchen. To ensure continued meal provision, the school has temporarily switched to an external meal delivery service.
The Education Bureau and the Department of Health have launched an investigation, which includes collecting and testing leftover food samples. Authorities are conducting surveys and tracking the health status of affected students. If the investigation confirms that the illness was caused by the catering provider or a violation of contract terms, the city may terminate the provider's contract.
