Taipei Mayor announces Songshan Airport relocation for AI park
Taipei Mayor Jiang Wan-an has announced a major plan to relocate Songshan Airport to facilitate the development of a massive AI industrial park. The project aims to utilize approximately 300 hectares of land surrounding the airport to address the critical shortage of large-scale industrial sites in Taipei, as existing hubs like Neihu and Nangang have reached saturation.
The proposed development is divided into three primary zones: a 100-hectare AI industrial cluster expected to generate 12 trillion TWD in economic value, a 90-hectare international sustainable living community providing housing for roughly 35,000 people, and a 110-hectare central green park. The mayor noted that the presence of global tech leaders like NVIDIA in Taipei underscores the urgent need for expanded land to support the AI era.
Relocating the airport is also expected to unlock 570 hectares of land currently restricted by flight height limits, potentially enabling significant urban renewal and adding 150,000 residential units across the region. Furthermore, the plan includes major transportation improvements, including new river crossings and extended metro lines to connect the new AI hub with existing industrial zones and the city center.
