Taipei Mayor honors 206 traffic safety volunteers

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended an awards ceremony to honor 206 outstanding traffic safety volunteers who protect students during their commutes. The event, organized by the Taipei City Government Education Bureau, recognized long-term contributors, including one volunteer who has served for 35 years.

Mayor Chiang highlighted the city's ongoing efforts to improve school zone safety through infrastructure projects, such as the establishment of school zones and pedestrian refuge islands. He noted that Taipei's traffic accident rates reached a historic low last year and cited high citizen satisfaction regarding traffic safety.

To support these volunteers, the city provides 3 million TWD in insurance coverage per volunteer and offers incentives such as the 'Volunteer Pass' for free entry to designated venues. Additionally, the Mayor discussed upgrades to senior citizen services, including improved benefits for the elderly through enhanced senior citizen cards.
