Taipei mayoral poll shows Chiang Wan-an leading for 2026 reelection

A recent online poll conducted by Yahoo News Taiwan regarding the 2026 Taipei mayoral election shows incumbent Kuomintang Mayor Chiang Wan-an leading with 54.8% of the votes. Democratic Progressive Party candidate Shen Po-yang follows with 23%, while 22.2% of respondents were undecided or had no opinion.

The election cycle has seen increased tension between the candidates. Shen Po-yang recently drew scrutiny for wearing a bulletproof vest while running in Japan, sparking debates over Taipei's public safety. Shen's campaign has criticized Chiang for using the issue to deflect from other topics.

Additionally, political friction has escalated following calls from the opposition for Chiang Wan-an to undergo DNA testing due to controversies surrounding his son's exchange student status. Kuomintang legislator Chen Yu-zhen criticized these demands, characterizing them as an attempt by the Democratic Progressive Party to focus on lineage rather than policy.
