Taipei Mayor's son faces scrutiny over Mayor's Award

Controversy has emerged regarding the awarding of the Taipei Mayor's Award to Chiang Te-li, the son of Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an. Critics and legal professionals have pointed out that while other recipients of the award at Jianguo High School possess national-level achievements, the section for Chiang Te-li’s specific meritorious deeds was listed as “currently blank,” noting only his involvement in scouting and teamwork.

Public scrutiny has also targeted Liao Chun-ying, the principal of Jianguo High School. Video footage surfaced showing the principal failing to shake hands with a female student while approaching the stage, but actively shaking hands with Chiang Te-li. Additionally, past social media posts from the principal praising the Mayor’s appearance have been recirculated by netizens. Following the backlash, the principal has since closed her personal Facebook account.
