Taipei Metro ridership hits 30-year record amid major events

Taipei Metro reported record-breaking ridership on October 30, with daily passenger volume exceeding 2.56 million. This surge is attributed to daily commuting, the opening of the Guangci/Fengtian Temple station on the Xinyi Line, and transfers from the New Taipei Metro Sanxia Line, alongside Halloween festivities.

On October 31, ridership reached 2.34 million, marking a post-pandemic high for Saturdays and a record for October Saturdays. The increase was driven by several major events, including a concert at the Taipei Dome, the Pride Parade, and Halloween celebrations.

To manage the crowds, Taipei Metro deployed AI-driven passenger flow analysis and smart guidance systems. The company added 72 extra trains and implemented various crowd control measures, such as adjusting train intervals and temporarily pausing escalators at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall station to prevent congestion.
