Taipei prosecutor resigns after testing positive for methamphetamine
A prosecutor from the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, identified by the surname Liu, has been granted a 18-month suspended prosecution following an admission of using Class II narcotics. The incident occurred on February 27 in the Luzhou District of New Taipei City while Liu was conversing with a friend. Police conducted an inspection after the friend appeared to be using an electronic cigarette, subsequently discovering methamphetamine residue bags in both Liu’s bag and his companion’s pocket.
Liu’s urine test returned positive for methamphetamine. Following the incident, Liu expressed regret, voluntarily submitted his resignation, and temporarily suspended his duties. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office held a review meeting on October 13, determining that his conduct was a serious violation of judicial ethics and dignity. The office has referred the case to the Prosecutors Evaluation Committee for further proceedings.
New Taipei District Prosecutors Office noted that the suspended prosecution was granted because Liu admitted to the offense, had no prior drug record, and agreed to undergo addiction treatment.
