Taipei real estate: transaction volume drops while prices rise
In July 2026, Taipei's real estate market experienced a decline in transaction volume and total value, even as the residential price index saw a slight increase. According to data from the Taipei City Government, the total transaction value fell by 17.59% month-on-month to NT$16.768 billion, while the number of transactions decreased by 7.63% to 484 cases.
Despite the drop in volume, the residential price index rose by 0.10% to 131.16. Among different housing types, the price index for buildings rose by 0.36%, while apartments saw a slight decrease of 0.14%.
On a national scale in Taiwan, a diverging trend has been observed over the past year. While the national residential price index decreased by 3.5%, the rental index rose by 1.7%. Experts attribute the rising rental costs to increased tax burdens for landlords, inflationary pressures on maintenance and furnishings, and a growing trend of young people opting to rent rather than buy due to high property prices and mortgage burdens.
