Taiping Old Street activity center upgraded in Chiayi County

The Chiayi County Government has completed an upgrade of the Taiping Activity Center and its adjacent plaza in Meishan Township as part of the ‘Settlement Highlight Creation Project’. The project, costing 18.5 million TWD, aims to transform the area into a more open and functional gathering point for tourists and residents.

Taiping Old Street is a significant mountain tourism destination known for its views of the Chiayi plains and its unique cloud-shrouded atmosphere. The renovation focused on improving the building's exterior and the plaza, which now features dirt-resistant grey paving to distinguish it from existing red roadways. The space has been redesigned to encourage visitors to linger rather than simply pass through.

County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang noted that continuous improvements are essential to remain competitive in the tourism sector. Future plans for the facility include converting the first floor into an exhibition hall for art, while coordinating the relocation of elderly care services to the second floor.
