Taishin and Shin Kong Banks Merge, Creating Taiwan's 7th Largest Bank

Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission approved the merger of Taishin Bank and Shin Kong Bank. The two institutions completed a share‑exchange merger on 24 July 2025 and were renamed Taishin Shin Kong Financial Holding. The combined bank will hold about NT$4.7 trillion in assets, moving it to the seventh‑largest position in the domestic banking sector.

The merger creates a network of 204 branches, second only to the Cooperative Bank’s 269 locations, and brings the employee count to roughly 12,000. Regulators highlighted the need to ensure a smooth integration of IT systems, citing past glitches when Taishin Securities merged with Yuan‑Fu Securities. The FSC said it will monitor the transition and enforce system‑downtime limits of about two hours.
