Taitung County reverses typhoon holiday decision, saving local business from chicken giveaway

Taitung County officials issued an emergency announcement early on October 23, declaring a suspension of work and classes due to the impact of Typhoon Prapiroon. This sudden decision reversed an earlier plan where the county was set to remain open while other regions implemented typhoon holidays.

The reversal spared a local dining business, known as the ‘Roasted Chicken Commando,’ from fulfilling a high-stakes promotional bet. The business had pledged to provide 100 free roasted chickens to residents in any county that failed to declare a typhoon holiday.

Prior to the early morning announcement, the business had expressed frustration on social media, believing Taitung would be the only county on the main island to remain operational. The sudden change in policy led to humorous reactions from netizens, with some lamenting the loss of the potential free meal while others joked that the chickens had narrowly escaped their fate.
