Taiwan advances smart healthcare through AI and 3D medical imaging
Taiwan is advancing its smart healthcare capabilities through the integration of artificial intelligence and 3D medical imaging. At a recent conference, Minister of Health and Welfare Shi Chung-liang emphasized that promoting digital medicine is a core government direction, focusing on building next-generation digital platforms to assist domestic medical AI in clinical settings.
Key technological developments include the promotion of FHIR Box and 3D PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) to break down information barriers between hospital systems. Additionally, the use of 3D medical imaging is being expanded to improve surgical planning and patient communication. National Taiwan University Hospital announced plans to complete an automated AI 3D medical imaging translation architecture across its entire hospital by 2028.
In community-based care, the Show Chan Medical System has demonstrated the impact of smart technology in remote areas. By utilizing remote care, physiological monitoring, and abnormal warning systems, the system has significantly improved the treatment rates for acute and severe cases in rural regions, increasing the rate from 54.2% to 94.9% through a model that prioritizes bringing medical expertise to the patient rather than requiring patient travel.
