Taiwan agricultural and fishery infrastructure faces repair needs and ongoing investment

Heavy rainfall has caused a collapse in the upstream drainage section of the Ganzilia No. 1 Middle Drain in Yizhu Township, threatening the safety and livelihoods of local aquaculture farmers. Weng Yun, a candidate for Yizhu Township Mayor, conducted a site inspection alongside fishery associations and government officials to assess the damage. Weng emphasized the need for a holistic approach to repairing the drainage system rather than isolated fixes to ensure long-term stability for the fishing industry.

In a broader regional context, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che reported that the city has invested over 7.7 billion TWD over the past eight years to improve agricultural and fishery water and road networks. This investment has covered approximately 1,916 kilometers of farm roads and 254 kilometers of waterways. The city government plans to increase its annual budget for these improvements from 250 million TWD this year to 300 million TWD next year, supplemented by central government subsidies, to enhance agricultural production and transport efficiency.
