Taiwan and India lead projected Asian economic growth for 2026

Projections for 2026 indicate significant economic expansion across several Asian nations. Taiwan is expected to lead the region with an 11% growth rate, driven largely by the global artificial intelligence boom and high demand for semiconductors and technology products. Kyrgyzstan follows with a projected 8.9% growth, while Vietnam is forecasted at 7.8% due to its expanding role in global manufacturing and supply chains.

India remains a major driver of global expansion. The Asian Development Bank forecasts 7% real GDP growth for India in 2026, while a United Nations report projects a 7.3% expansion for the 2026 fiscal year. This growth is attributed to robust domestic demand, increasing manufacturing capacity, and public infrastructure programs. India is also noted for its digital public infrastructure model, which includes technical cooperation and architecture-sharing agreements with numerous countries.

On a global scale, the UN projects overall growth of 2.6% for 2026, a decrease from 2.9% the previous year. While developing economies are expected to grow by 4%, the report highlights a bifurcation where a few large economies are driving much of the global expansion.
