Taiwan and United States conduct joint maritime patrol

The United States Coast Guard and Taiwan's Coast Guard carried out a joint sea patrol, a move highlighted by a photograph posted by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). The operation is part of a broader cooperation framework outlined in a memorandum of understanding covering joint search and rescue, anti‑smuggling, illegal‑fishing enforcement, marine‑environment protection and personnel training.

The two services recently helped dismantle a network smuggling advanced semiconductor chips, preventing their use for military purposes. The joint activity is being emphasized amid an increasing presence of Chinese Coast Guard vessels near Taiwan, which has raised concerns about maritime security in the region.
