Taiwan announces salary increases for public kindergarten workers
The Ministry of Education has announced proposed amendments to increase the compensation and benefits for contract personnel in public kindergartens. Effective January 1 next year, monthly salaries for childcare workers will rise based on educational background. For example, a level 1 worker with a bachelor's degree is expected to see their monthly salary increase to approximately 48,800 TWD. The reform also expands the salary grade system from 20 to 25 levels to encourage long-term retention. This measure is expected to benefit roughly 14,000 employees.
Separately, recent labor statistics from the Directorate-General of Statistics show that real total wages in Taiwan for the first eight months of the year grew by 2.66%, marking the highest increase for this period in 11 years. In the manufacturing sector, overtime hours in August reached a 46-year high. Notably, the electronic component manufacturing industry saw overtime hours reach their second-highest level in 47 years, driven by increased production related to AI and high-performance computing demand.
