Typhoon Shadel hits China and triggers flood alerts in Taiwan

Typhoon Shadel has made a significant impact on East Asia, most notably making two landfalls in Zhejiang Province, China, within a single hour. The typhoon first struck Yuhuan City at approximately 8:05 AM and then hit Wenzhou at 9:10 AM, with maximum wind speeds reaching level 12. This event marks the third typhoon to land in the Yuhuan area this year, matching a historical record for Zhejiang since 1949. The storm's massive circulation is expected to bring heavy rainfall to nine Chinese provinces, including Fujian, Jiangxi, and Guangdong, prompting a level-two emergency response and temporary railway suspensions.

In Taiwan, authorities have implemented extensive flood prevention measures in response to the typhoon's proximity. In New Taipei City, the Water Resources Bureau has activated emergency mechanisms, including inspecting pumping stations, clearing drainage systems, and utilizing smart flood monitoring platforms. In the Matsu Islands, specifically Beigan Township, local officials have convened emergency meetings to coordinate disaster prevention and protect life and property.
