Taiwan average life expectancy rises to 81.27 years

Taiwan's average life expectancy has risen to 81.27 years, returning to pre-pandemic levels following a decline in mortality rates as the impact of COVID-19 fades. According to the Ministry of the Interior's latest life table, the average life expectancy for women is 84.75 years, while for men it is 77.93 years.

Regional data shows significant disparities. Taipei City recorded the highest average life expectancy at 83.98 years, followed by New Taipei City, Taichung, Taoyuan, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. Hsinchu City also ranked high with an average of 82.13 years. Conversely, Taitung County recorded the lowest average life expectancy at 76.49 years.

Gender-specific data indicates that Taipei City leads in both categories, with women living to 86.74 years and men to 81.10 years. Taitung County recorded the lowest figures for both genders. Experts attribute these regional gaps to health inequalities, including differences in medical accessibility, economic conditions, and the concentration of medical centers in urban areas compared to rural or eastern regions.
