Taiwan Coast Guard and Hong Kong Police locate missing water‑sport participants
On 4 April, Taiwan’s Coast Guard North Division responded to a report that a man who set out on a stand‑up paddleboard (SUP) from Fan Bird Forest in East Ao, Yilan County on the evening of 3 April was missing. The Coast Guard, together with police, fire services and a drone unit launched a land‑sea‑air search, deploying patrol boats, unmanned aerial vehicles and an aerial surveillance aircraft. The operation emphasized the need for life jackets and waterproof communication devices during water recreation.
In Hong Kong, on the night of 3 March, a 40‑year‑old man snorkeling near Clear Water Bay in Sai Kong failed to return to shore as planned. His companion alerted the police, water police and fire services. Rescuers located the missing man about 500–600 m offshore, where a cliff had blocked the companion’s view. He was found alive, unharmed, after having chased a blue crab, and required no medical treatment.
