Taiwan conducts Han Kuang military exercises with Penghu Island defense simulation

As part of the annual 10-day Han Kuang military exercises, Taiwan's military simulated a defense against a Chinese air landing assault on the strategically important Penghu Islands. During the pre-dawn drills, troops utilized M60A3 tanks, artillery, and anti-aircraft guns to establish a "multi-layered" defense against a simulated coastal landing.

In a novel component of the civil defense drills, the government is testing the intentional throttling of mobile internet speeds to simulate bandwidth scarcity during a crisis or invasion. The government has specified that essential services, such as ATMs, traffic signals, landlines, and emergency ambulance calls, will remain unaffected by the speed reductions. The exercise, which includes the integration of reservists, aims to improve operational readiness and communication planning during emergencies.
