Taiwan conducts HIMARS rocket drill aimed at China

Taiwan's armed forces carried out a live‑fire exercise using the U.S.‑supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). Mobile launchers fired reduced‑range rockets toward the waters of the Taiwan Strait, demonstrating the "shoot‑and‑scoot" tactic and testing rapid deployment and precision targeting. The rockets were launched within minutes of command, fell into the sea, and were part of a broader training effort against a perceived Chinese threat. Military spokesperson Wang Ming‑hui said the drills are intended to protect Taiwan, while Taiwan’s U.S. representative Alexander Yui noted the unit’s recent acquisition of HIMARS. The exercise follows a pending U.S. sale of additional HIMARS systems that has been delayed after President Trump’s meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
