Taiwan conducts Town Resilience air‑defense drills with network‑disruption simulation

Taiwan's 2026 Town Resilience (air‑defense) exercise will take place from 7 to 13 August across 14 counties in the North and Central regions. During the drill, mobile data service will be restricted to voice calls and SMS to simulate communications loss, while officials will test alert transmission, evacuation, traffic control and disaster‑relief operations. Non‑compliance with civil‑defence orders can result in fines of NT$30,000–150,000.

In Chiayi City, the exercise is scheduled for 10 August, 14:30–15:00, and includes a 30‑minute drill of alerts, evacuations, traffic restrictions and simulated network outages. The city police produced multilingual safety videos in seven languages (Chinese, English, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Filipino) to ensure all residents, including foreign workers and tourists, receive clear instructions. Officers emphasised the “two‑wall principle” for sheltering and warned that violations may be penalised under the Civil Defence Act.
