Taiwan court orders compensation for breach of marital rights

The Shilin District Court in Taiwan has ordered a man to pay 100,000 TWD in compensation to a husband after determining that a male colleague’s physical interactions with the husband’s wife infringed upon marital rights.

The lawsuit was initiated by a husband seeking damages from two colleagues, alleging their behavior exceeded professional boundaries. One colleague, identified by the pseudonym ‘A-Qiang’, admitted to hugging the wife in a company stairwell on two separate occasions in 2025. The court noted that this individual had previously faced company disciplinary action for sexual harassment involving the same woman.

The judge ruled that these actions constituted an infringement of the spouse's rights, justifying the compensation. While the defendant claimed he had been forgiven by the husband, the court found insufficient evidence to support this claim. A second claim against another colleague was dismissed, as the court found the evidence of an inappropriate relationship to be insufficient.
