Taiwan detects Chinese aircraft sortie and multiple vessels in its ADIZ

On June 9, 2026 Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said it had detected one People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft sortie, six PLAN naval vessels and nine official ships operating around the island. The aircraft entered Taiwan’s southeastern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) and the ministry reported it was monitored and responded.

The ministry also referenced the previous day’s activity, when two PLA aircraft sorties, six naval vessels and seven official ships were observed, with both aircraft entering Taiwan’s eastern ADIZ. In unrelated defence news, Taiwan’s first domestically built submarine departed Kaohsiung earlier in June for its 15th sea‑trial, including a submerged‑navigation test, as Chinese military activity around the island continues to rise.
