Taiwan detects PLA aircraft and naval vessels near territory
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence reported continued military activity by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) around the island. On Sunday, as of 6 a.m., Taiwan detected 4 PLA aircraft sorties, 6 People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels, and 9 official ships operating in the region. Of the aircraft sorties, 2 crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).
This follows significant activity on Saturday, when the ministry detected 14 PLA aircraft sorties, 6 PLAN vessels, and 8 official ships. During Saturday's activity, 11 aircraft sorties crossed the median line into the ADIZ.
In response to increased regional military pressure, Taiwan has been bolstering its defense capabilities. Reports from June indicate that Taiwan's first domestically built submarine departed from the Port of Kaohsiung for sea trials, which included dive tests and submerged navigation evaluations.
