Taiwan detects PLA aircraft and PLAN ships operating near island

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported on Monday that three sorties of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, five People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels, and four official ships were detected operating around the island. One of the aircraft sorties breached the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

This follows reports from Sunday, when the MND detected two PLA aircraft sorties, five PLAN vessels, and six official ships in the area. The ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded to these activities.

Data from the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (CGA) indicates a significant presence of Chinese vessels in the region. Last month, 244 Chinese vessels were detected in waters around Taiwan, an increase from 55 in June and 30 in May. Approximately 60 percent of the vessels detected last month were Chinese coast guard ships.
