Taiwan detects PLA aircraft and PLAN vessels near its territory

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence reported that on Monday, August 17, it detected one sortie of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, nine People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels, and seven official ships operating around the island. One PLA aircraft sortie entered the northern part of Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

This follows activity on Sunday, when Taiwan detected 11 PLA aircraft sorties, eight PLAN vessels, and two official ships. During that period, seven of the aircraft sorties crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line and entered the northern and central parts of Taiwan’s ADIZ. The Republic of China (ROC) Armed Forces have been monitoring the situation and responding accordingly.
