Taiwan develops bamboo fiber materials for semiconductor industry
Taiwan is developing plant-based solutions to address the environmental impact of the electronics industry, specifically targeting the reduction of plastic waste through biodegradable materials. Companies in the region are exploring the use of bamboo fiber for applications within the semiconductor supply chain.
While there is no evidence of mass production of fully biodegradable printed circuit boards (PCBs) made of bamboo, Taiwanese firms are already commercializing bamboo fiber materials for electronic components and semiconductor packaging. For instance, Advanced Materials Co., Ltd., also known as Hsinchu Gold BAMBOO, has presented natural materials designed to replace plastic products. At SEMICON Taiwan 2025, the company showcased bamboo fiber applications such as integrated circuit (IC) trays, wafer boxes, and purification filters.
