Taiwan Eden Foundation supports disabled youth in securing stable employment

A young man with mild intellectual disabilities, referred to as Xiao Yi, has successfully transitioned into stable employment at a logistics company after eight years of remaining at home. Xiao Yi belongs to a family of five where all members live with disabilities, previously relying on his mother’s temporary work and his uncle’s recycling collection for income.

Through supportive employment services provided by the Eden Foundation’s Taoyuan Jiaen Service Center, Xiao Yi received guidance on essential life skills, including using transit apps to commute independently via bus. Once employed, vocational counselors provided ongoing training to help him master tasks such as sorting goods and handling labels, while also addressing practical needs like obtaining eyeglasses to reduce workplace errors.

Having maintained his position for over a year, Xiao Yi used his earnings to repair a leaking roof at his family home. The Eden Foundation emphasized that successful integration for individuals with disabilities requires not just job placement, but continuous support, vocational training, and assistance in building workplace adaptability.
