Taiwan Education Minister Zheng Ying-yao Meets VIS Robotics Team After 72‑Hour Comeback

A Taiwanese robotics team from VIS International Experimental Education, known as VIS MARS, competed in the FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) world championship in Istanbul, Turkey. Shortly after arrival, the team’s robot, tools and parts were seized by customs. Over the next 72 hours the students sourced spare components from other competitors, rebuilt a functional "monster" robot and re‑entered the contest, eventually winning the highest event score and helping their alliance secure four qualification matches.

On 21 July, Education Minister Zheng Ying‑yao met the entire VIS MARS crew in Taipei. He praised their quick problem‑solving, teamwork and perseverance, calling the experience a showcase of STEAM education and project‑based learning. Zheng presented each student with a hex‑key set and a custom‑printed mug featuring a photo of the team holding the Taiwanese flag at Istanbul Airport. The ministry highlighted the event as an example of Taiwan’s youth demonstrating resilience and innovation on the international stage.
