Taiwan expands late-night hazardous duty pay for 50,000 police officers

Executive Yuan Premier Cho Jung-tai has announced an expansion of the ‘late-night hazardous duty allowance’ for police officers. The policy change aims to include officers performing on-duty shifts or standby duties within their stations, whereas the allowance was previously restricted to those conducting patrols or inspections outside of their stations.

Under the current system, implemented in June 2024, officers performing duties outside their station between midnight and 6:00 AM receive 100 TWD per hour. The expansion will benefit an estimated 50,000 frontline officers nationwide, with an average monthly increase of approximately 2,000 TWD. The decision follows feedback from the police community noting that the risks and pressures of responding to emergencies and handling reports do not decrease simply because an officer is stationed within a precinct.
