Taiwan expands social housing and old house renovation subsidies

Taiwan is implementing various housing initiatives to improve living standards and safety. In Kaohsiung, the city has significantly expanded its social housing capacity, adding 22,265 units during Mayor Chen Chi-mai's tenure. This growth has surpassed other major cities, including New Taipei and Taipei. The city is also pioneering a policy that reserves 40% of social housing for marriage and child-rearing families to support young citizens.

Simultaneously, the National Land Administration is promoting an old house renovation subsidy program to enhance the safety of aging buildings. Over 14,000 people have consulted regarding the program, which targets apartments and houses over 30 years old. Eleven counties and cities have already announced applications, with more expected to follow in the coming months. The program utilizes service teams to connect residents with professional repair resources, including architects and structural engineers, to facilitate seismic retrofitting and general repairs.
