Taiwan FDA assistant faces prosecution for unauthorized document access
A contract assistant at Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been indicted for exploiting system vulnerabilities to manipulate official documents. The individual, identified by the surname Wang, allegedly set themselves as a supervisor proxy to unauthorizedly extend document deadlines and approve files, creating 89 false records.
Reports indicate that Wang also obtained administrator privileges to illegally query 1,237 documents not assigned to them. When confronted, Wang claimed the actions were intended to reduce the workload of colleagues facing heavy pressure from document deadlines.
The Shilin District Prosecutors Office has filed a public prosecution against Wang for suspected violations of the Criminal Code, including the exercise of forged quasi-official documents and interference with computer use. The FDA has terminated Wang’s employment and is cooperating with judicial authorities while reviewing its internal permission management and auditing mechanisms.
