Taiwan financial sectors hit record NT$1.18 trillion profit in first seven months
Taiwan's three major financial sectors—banking, insurance, and securities/futures—reported record-breaking pre-tax profits for the first seven months of the year, totaling NT$1.18 trillion. This represents a 105.88% increase compared to the same period last year.
The banking sector contributed NT$476.36 billion, a 28.8% increase, driven by loan growth and active financial markets. The securities and futures sector saw a massive 188.11% surge in pre-tax profits, reaching NT$213.996 billion, largely due to increased stock market trading volumes. While the insurance sector saw a 634.67% increase, officials noted that the application of IFRS 17 standards affects direct year-on-year comparisons.
Despite the strong overall performance for the year, July saw a cooling trend in some areas. The insurance and securities sectors experienced monthly profit declines in July, whereas the banking sector remained a stable pillar of profit with a monthly increase.
