Taiwan flooding triggers political debate in Kaohsiung and rescues in Hualien

In Kaohsiung, heavy rainfall caused by low-pressure systems and the southwest monsoon has led to significant flooding and damage to agriculture and fisheries. KMT legislator Wang Hung-wei noted that the flooding occurred around the same time as the major floods eight years ago, suggesting a historical pattern.

Wang commented on the political implications, stating that the disaster could influence the upcoming mayoral election. She criticized the Democratic Progressive Party's response and suggested that the flooding has shifted voter sentiment, arguing that Kaohsiung is no longer a guaranteed win for the ruling party.

Meanwhile, in Hualien, emergency services successfully rescued two tourists who were trapped in the Mugua Creek area after rising water levels prevented their exit. The rescue operation, which involved drones and rope systems to deliver supplies, concluded on the morning of the 26th.
