Taiwan Foreign Minister argues Taiwan is essential to US AI ambitions
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung published an article in the journal Foreign Affairs, asserting that Taiwan is the most reliable partner in the AI supply chain for the United States. He stated that Taiwan is indispensable for the US to maintain its technological leadership and succeed in the ongoing tech competition with China.
Lin highlighted that Taiwan’s strengths extend beyond semiconductor manufacturing to include AI server production, which facilitates the rapid deployment of AI technologies. He noted that Taiwan’s expertise in semiconductors, communications equipment, and precision machinery complements US capabilities, particularly as AI integration expands into robotics, drones, and defense systems.
The Minister called for cooperation among democratic partners to establish secure and trustworthy AI supply chains. He referenced the Global Semiconductor Democratic Supply Chain Partnership Initiative proposed by Taiwan in 2025 and the ongoing Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue (EPPD) between Taiwan and the US, which focuses on AI security, digital infrastructure, and high-tech talent.
