Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung Highlights US Policy Consistency and Semiconductor‑AI Strategy

Taiwan’s foreign minister Lin Chia‑lung met a delegation from the Institute for Indo‑Pacific Security, led by chair Randall G. Schriver, on 30 July. He urged the United States to maintain a consistent policy toward Taiwan, stressing the island’s commitment to democracy and warning that China’s expanding military and gray‑zone tactics threaten Taiwan’s international space. Lin said the Taiwan‑US partnership is moving toward a “symbiotic partnership” and called for clear messaging to reinforce cooperation.

In a separate interview with Italy’s Il Sole 24 Ore, Lin outlined Taiwan’s semiconductor and artificial‑intelligence strategy, describing a shift from reliance on China toward deeper collaboration with the United States, Japan and Europe. He highlighted the “silicon prosperity” concept, emphasizing supply‑chain resilience, economic security and Taiwan’s role as a hub in the global democratic technology network, while noting the need for stronger self‑defence and regional cooperation to preserve Indo‑Pacific stability.
