Taiwan government plans 10,000 TWD cash handout

The Taiwanese government is preparing a 10,000 TWD cash handout per person, with the timeline dependent on the Legislative Yuan's review of the central government's budget. Premier Cho Jung-tai indicated that if the budget passes smoothly, the funds could be distributed as early as the period around the Lunar New Year in early 2026, or by the Lantern Festival at the latest.

While the central government's timeline remains subject to legislative approval, seven townships across six counties in Taiwan have already begun distributing additional local subsidies. These include:

• Hualien County: Guangfu Township (10,000 TWD) and Wanrong Township (5,000 TWD). • Taitung County: Yanping Township (5,000 TWD). • Yilan County: Toucheng Town (3,000 TWD). • Changhua County: Zhutang Township (3,000 TWD). • Yunlin County: Linnei Township (3,600 TWD). • Chiayi County: Xikou Township (2,000 TWD).

Premier Cho emphasized that the administration must maintain fiscal discipline while strengthening investments in technology, public infrastructure, social welfare, and the defense industry, particularly in developing non-red supply chains.
